Upper Padas Hydroelectric Plant

The project consists of constructing a 120 metres high-roller compacted concrete hydroelectric dam across the Ulu Padas River near Kuala Tomani, a 187.5 MW power generation facility, associated transmission lines, infrastructure and a water reservoir. This project is intended to meet the increasing demand for electricity in Sabah, which is expected to reach 1,600 MW in 2026. The Ulu Padas site is an ideal location due to its narrow reservoir and large catchment area of about 1,885 km2. The advantage of the Ulu Padas site is its location in a narrow reservoir associated with a large catchment of about 1,885 km2. The reservoir will only be 12 km long and covers 5.9 km2. There is relatively easy access, a simple land use pattern, and no or minimum settlement will be inundated.
